The Lovely Linda
Way back in 2009 I had the pleasure of meeting Linda Hungerford
from Flourishing Palms, on her visit to Australia to see her
daughter who was living in Sydney at the time.
I remember chatting lots to Linda, sharing our love
for patchwork and sewing. She fell in love with my
Snowflake Medallion quilt and I sent her one her way with the pattern.
A few months later Linda sent me some picture of her Snowflake
quilt and I continued to follow her progress on her blog.
I loved that she made it in different colous from the original
and I must saythe purple looks fabulous!

Linda then entered this stunning quilt in the 2011 Iowa State Fair and was
extremely gratified to win a blue ribbon, her first ever Iowa State Fair first
place ribbon in at least 15 years of entering quilts in the fair!
Stiff competition there.
Then, in October Linda was again honored to learn that her Snowflake was
accepted into the juried Pacific International Quilt Festival in Santa Clara,
California. Snowflake didn’t earn a ribbon, but she still considered it a supreme
honor to have had it displayed alongside quilts created by extremely
talented, celebrity quilters.
The quilt was then entered in the Machine Quilter’s Showcase at the
Overland Park Convention Centre, Kansas City and Linda’s Quilt
won Best of Show. She won a Bernina Aurora with BSR. Lucky Lady.
My favourite part of this story is that I was in Kansas City at the
2012 Spring Quilt Market and because Linda was in town
and coming to the quilt market I was lucky enough
to hear her news and congratulate her in person!
Very special moment I must say.
Since then Linda has emailed me with more news.
Her Snowflake Medallion was juried into
the AQS (American Quilter’s Society) show
that was in Des Moines, Iowa, October 3-6 2012.
Before Snowflake headed Des Moines, it was shipped to
Colorado to be photographed by “Quilter’s Newsletter”
magazine for a future issue!
This sure is one beautiful and extremely busy quilt!
I would like to take this opportunity to thank Linda for sharing
this jouney with me. It has been wonderful to watch one of
my designs travelling around and winning prizes!
When I caught up with Linda I also gave her a
copy of one of my newer quilts, Harlequin Stars.
I can’t wait to see if she tackles this one too.

Wow, congratulations to you both. I have always admired this quilt and might tackle it after I finished Harlequin Stars. Thanks Emma for sharing Karen’s quilt with us.

Wow! How gratifying for you, Emma! It is a beautiful quilt and I love the colours as well.
I hope she does tackle Harlequin Stars and I want to see it be a prize winner in the USA.
I wish I could sew half as good as that.

Oh Emma! You’re such a sweetheart! Thank you very much for your generous words about Snowflake. I think you’re a marvelous designer. I adore Harlequin Stars, but was hoping you’d forgotten that you gave it to me! (giggle) I absolutely, without-a-doubt, will make it but the question is “when?” Now I’m reassessing my to-dos so I can start it sooner rather than later. I deeply appreciate your talents and your generosity. Thanks!
