Lone Star Quilt

Thursday, October 4th, 2007

Last time I posted a picture of this quilt it wasn’t a very clear picture. So for all of you out there that asked me for a better look, this is for you. This quilt was taught in a class here at Ballarat Patchwork with tutor Deborah Dorward. We also have the pattern for sale, but it is Deb’s 1930′s version. Hopefully we will be teaching this quilt again next year!

Very Excitment

Wednesday, October 3rd, 2007

I just had to post these fabrics today………because they are my fabrics! Not my fabrics as in I bought them but as in I designed them. I am actually a qualified textile designer and have been designing fabrics for furnishing fabrics and fashion for years. BUT these are my first patchwork fabrics. I have already designed a quilt, and can’t wait to get my hands on them to start making them. These bits unfortunately are only mill strike offs, so I will have to wait for the real thing to get sewing. I am very excited!

Grandmother’s Braid

Thursday, September 27th, 2007

This pattern has been around for years and my mother made this beautiful Grandmother’s braid quilt a few years before we even opened the shop. We have taught this quilt as a class many times and so we thought it was time to release it as a pattern. (not before time really.) This quilt was made from patchwork fabrics but also Sheridan sheet fabric. I use to work at a company that created all of the screens for Sheridan and we would have boxes of fabric left over after strike offs and screen checks. Some of the fabric would have big texta marks circling the mistakes, but if you were happy to cut around these bits, they were perfectly good fabrics.

Grandmother’s Braid

I would really like to make one of these quilts but I would like to do it out of brighter cleaner colours, sashed with a white fabric of course. See I am getting excited already……thinking about the fabrics……yummy.

Dresden Plate

Friday, September 14th, 2007

We have a very bright Dresden Plate quilt which we sell as a kit and pattern and have also had a class. The quilt was originally made for the Ballaarat Quilters Inc Christmas Challenge. The challenge was to use all spotty fabric, which I did including the binding and backing.

This quilt was completed in our class by Kathleen Beer. Such a fresh, bright quilt. As you know I am a fan of pink and aqua. so I think it looks fantastic!

Baltimore Beauty

Friday, September 14th, 2007

A few years ago we ran a class called the Baltimore Wallhanging Quilt. We still sell this pattern and has been a very popular quilt for us over the years. It was designed by Emma, sewn by Barbara Matheson and quilted beautifully by Elizabeth Zabinski. Just recently one of our customers sent us a photo of her finished Baltimore Wallhanging. We love the dark background, it changes the whole look of the quilt. Congratulations to Sally, a very beautiful quilt!

1/2 square triangles

Monday, September 10th, 2007

I had some fabrics that I had been gathering and wasn’t sure what to do with them. I decided to make 100 1/2 square triangle blocks. The next decision is how to lay them out. I took a couple of photos. I think I like the flag look, all the blocks the same way.

I love this block, there are so many different ways you can lay them out. They can look so completely different. These blocks will be finished 6″, so the quilt will end up being 60″ x 60″. A good kids quilt or couch throw.
