What is your name?:

Well I don’t think I ever received a proper title from Pam, my maker, but I was always referred to as ‘Emma’s Quilt’.

When were you made?:

Well unfortunately I can’t deny my age as a Lady should, but as you can see by my label I can’t deny it. I was made in 1988 when you were only a wee tacker and I lived on your bed until you bought a queen sized one  and replaced me on February 16th 1997.

You remember that date well, does that make you resentlful that you were replaced?:

No I had many years on your bed.  More than your poor new ones you make now. Some are lucky to even get 12 or even 3 months. I suppose I resent Pam my creator for teaching you how to sew.

What are you made out of?:

I was made out of mainly Liberty Fabrics. Pam spent at least 12 months running from shop to shop searching for the elusive 100% cotton fabrics. There were no Patchwork Shops as you know of today, so she bought mainly from dress shops. I was made using a simple log cabin design but my strips weren’t cut nicely with these modern day rotary cutter thingos. I was torn. Yes, I will repeat myself, all the fabric was ripped. I know, shocking. Unheard of these days. And then there is the batting. That dreadfull polyester that was the only one available. It has gone all lumpy and it would have been very hard for Pam to hand quilt so I do admire her for that.

Where do you live now?:

I am currently living on top of a wardrobe in your house. Not a bad place as I have been in a cupboard for such a long time.

You did recently have a trip didn’t you?:

Oh yes, you heard about that. I am quite famous now having my picture in a magazine. Well, I was sent to Sydney for a photo shoot and got to spend some time in the wonderful City. I was included in Pam’s profile which was recently featured in Down Under Quilts.

Will you be happy on top of the wardrobe now?:

Yes I would think so, it is a great position. Not too much light and a fantastic view….. but I do have to be brought out an admired regularly. I am quite popular now and everyone should see me.
