Dresden Plate template

Thursday, September 17th, 2009

I loved curved Dresden Plates. Such a stunning design. Victorian Textiles has released some sets of templates. The small set starts at 4″ and goes up to 9″. The large set starts at 10″ and goes up to 15″. What a great range of sizes!
I would like to attempt the tiny one – how cute! Thanks to Dale for making this lovely sample!

I also have to tell you about another new product. Dream Lines Quilt Back.

“Quilt faster, more precisely and with less effort! Benartex has taken pure cotton fabric and pre-printed it with one of Linda’s most popular designs. All you do is quilt on the blue lines and after all the quilting is done, the lines will disappear after you wash it. Just quick and easy beautiful results.”

Lots of stuff

First Wendy wanted to show you her new cardigan. It’s very cold in Ballarat and she has been complaining quite a bit. Lucky Ric-Rac had some felted wool that matched her dress perfectly.

I have been making a new Melly and Me pattern called the Sleepover.
I am using a new product from Victorian Textiles
called bag batting. It’s a really stiff batting, that gives great structure.
I have spray basted mine and then quilted the two together.

I have just put all our battings, interfacings and fusibles and also lots of our clover products onto our web page.

As a little bonus, for the month of September we are paying for your postage!

doll-01
We have a new addition to our shop – a sweet little kinder girl. She is designed by Jodie and is a wizz to make, all she needs is a name. Any suggestions?

We have also had some lovely new fabrics called Hushabye arrive. These have been designed by the talented Tula Pink.

We are also lucky enough to become stockists of Kellie’s patterns

Chocolate Dahlia

Monday, August 17th, 2009

I have been working on this quilt for a little while but finally got it together on the weekend. It is a Michelle Yeo pattern called Giant Dahlia. I have made mine using Anna Maria Horner’s Chocolate Lollipop range of fabric. This was her first range and have been waiting for the perfect project to use the stash I had.

I actually found a shop here in Australia that still has some of these fabrics. I was so happy to find it was still available, perfect for the border.

Gran’s Quilt Block

Monday, August 17th, 2009

The quilt that I made for my Gran that I showed you a couple of posts ago. Someone asked me the pattern. It is a really simple quilt. I started with a 61/2″ square and then cut 2″ squares to make the corner blocks. It is called a snowball block.

You then sew through the middle of the 2″ squares.

gran-021
Sew all four corners.

gran-03
Then iron the squares to the corner. I used two different colours for the corner triangles. The quilt was then sashed with 2″ pieces! A very simple quilt that looks very effective.

New Template Sets

Thursday, August 13th, 2009

I have been sewing up a storm. Lots to show, but will wait until they are finished. This weekend is the BQW – Ballarat Quilting Weekend – and I am planning on sewing heaps.  I’m not doing a class, just some serious sit and sew. A whole weekend, very exciting.

loversknot
This block is made from the Lover’s Knot template set from Victorian Textiles.
I have a plan for this one. Stay tuned.

This one is called Maru.

Nice Bag

Saturday, August 1st, 2009

A lovely customer of mine, Carly, came in during the week to show me her weekender travel bag. It is an Amy Butler pattern and Carly used one of the Kokka Linen/cotton fabrics. She then piped it in red hanky linen.

This month Ballarat Patchwork has 20% OFF it’s Kokka fabrics for you to enjoy.

I have also had quite a few friend’s having bubs. 3 boys in the last month or so. So I have to make 3 new baby boy quilts and just in case I thought I would make an extra one. This is number 1 quilt.

Finally finishing some things

Sunday, July 26th, 2009

Yep, been hitting the sewing machine hard this weekend and have been sewing up a storm. Finished quilting my Gran’s quilt, just got to put the binding on.

gran-01

I got the fabric for the back while I was away on our Sewjourn retreat, at the lovely shop called The Drapers of Mt Macedon. My Gran loves birds and I thought the colours suited perfectly.

gran-02

I also pieced a new version of an old quilt of ours called Gingham Rose, in Amy Butler Fabrics. There are fabrics from a couple of Amy Butler’s range including Lotus, Midwest Modern and Daisy Chain. It’s a really simple pattern but it is still a favourite with me.

gingham-01

I think I might have a go at free-motion quilting on this one, maybe some big flowers, or loops…….

gingham-02

While I was going through my photos I found a pic of some cute little fishes made for us by Dale. They are made from the Melly & Me pattern Under the Sea.
