Spot quilt for Poppy

Monday, October 3rd, 2011

I have a new baby in my life. My very good friends have
had a little baby girl called Poppy.
I have made all their children cot quilts and am now thinking
I need to make them quilts for their beds – that is going to have
to wait as I have a baby quilt to make!!!

The beautiful Poppy

I love making cot quilts as they are a good way to test out
new quilt ideas without committing to a full quilt.
I felt like making a quilt with spots and the nursery
for Poppy has been decorated in soft creams, beiges
and pinks. I managed to get some soft florals from
some fellow crafters because I don’t have anything
like that in my stash anymore!

I decided to make the blocks 8″ square.
I then choose some circle templates,
one for the finished size – 5.5″ and one to
cut the fabric with seam allowance included – 6.5″

I then made cardboard templates out of the 5.5″ circle.
I used a light weight cardboard so it’s easier to pop
out after the fabric has been stitched.
I used a running stitch around the edge of each
circle and the placed the cardboard template
in the middle. I then drew up the thread
gathering the seam allowance on the back.
Then I gave them all a really good press,
and popped out the cardboard.
I only made 6 cardboard templates so
I could use it again and again.

I have made 35 circles and this is all I have done so far.
The quilt will be 5 squares across and 7 down,
making it 40″ x 56″ in size.
I am now going to sew the cirles onto the 8.5″
background fabrics. I think I will used a fabric
glue to hold them in place so I can sew around
the edge of each circle to attach them to the background.

Will post again once it is done!

Customer Show & Tell and more new things

Friday, September 23rd, 2011

The lovely Lucy popped in to show us her “Pickle”
“Pickle” is a pattern by the the talented Jodie from RicRac.
This pattern has been designed as an introduction to making softies,
and Lucy enjoyed making it so much she came to get more fabric to
make another one. The best bit……. Lucy is only 8!!

I got another treat today when Briony brought in her
finished Alphabet Soup Quilt.
The pattern for this quilt was designed by Kellie from Don’t Look Now.
I think she has done a pretty awesome job!

and the latest news…… we have some buttons.
They are from BasicGrey and are just stunning.

and I thought I would also share my new customer alarm.
Buffy sits up on the counter when there are no
customers in the shop just keeping an eye on things.
As soon as the door opens she bolts off out the back,
in the process scaring the hell out of me!

Ballarat Quilting Weekend

Friday, July 15th, 2011

In just over a month Ballaarat Quilters Inc is hosting their annual
Ballarat Quilting Weekend.

This wonderful event is held at the Mercure Ballarat Hotel
and includes lots of wonderful tutors, great food and fabulous company.
This is their 14th year of running this event so they are pretty damn good.

I have been told that Kellie’s (from Don’t Look Now) class still has some places.
The dates for this weekend are the 20th & 21st of August 2011.
You can just come for the two days or you could really have some fun and
come for the whole weekend! The dinners are fabulous and also the tutors
show and tell.

The project that Kellie will be teaching over the two days is Thinking of You.

You will learn about fussy cutting, raw edge applique and free motion quilting
and hopefully end up with a cushion just like the one above!

If you are interested in attending this weekend please call
Pam Thompson on 0419 115 306.

Things for Angus

Thursday, June 2nd, 2011

My first nephew was born last year on the 3rd of December.
Very exciting after 4 nieces and a chance for me to
make some boy things.

I gave him his quilt quite some time ago and didn’t get around to
taking any photos. My sister in law, Jo, took some for me
so I can finally share what I made for him.

This is his quilt, made from 2″ squares in reds, grays
and and a touch of blue. I then just quilted lines all over
it which was a very quick and easy way to get it finished!

I also painted some pictures for his wall. You might recognise the car shapes,
which have been borrowed from Kellie’s Peak Hour quilt. I enlarged the images
and transfered them onto the canvas. Thanks Kellie!

And for the finishing touch, a car cushion using
Prints Charming’s hand printed car panel.

Mum had also been busy making bibs.

I love pumpkin!

and t-shirts for Zara!
My mum has made so many of these cute decorated
t-shirts and her grand daughters
love clothes made by their Adda!

Missing Elephant

Tuesday, May 17th, 2011

I was very unhappy to discover recently that
one of my samples has left the building.

The one that has gone missing is the one
on the bottom with the pink star.

Have you seen this elephant?
